BECKLEY FREEDOM PARK "LETS ROLL"

From it's steel-wheeled beginning in the 1950's through the sidewalk-surfing decade of the 60's into the skateparks of the 70's.Skateboarding has risen to heights beyond belief for millions of participants skatings ramps, sidewalks, and skate parks around the world.

The City of Beckley Park and Recreation Department celebrated it's opening of the new skate park in Beckley on Saturday, October 13th, 2001. The skate park was named by having a contest among our youth in the community. This was during the fallen of the Twin Towers in New York City. Our park is known as Beckley Freedom Park, "Let's Roll."

The Skate Park consist of: 
*Two-steel 12 foot wide quarter-pipes (one 6 foot high and one 4 foot high)
*One steel half-pipe (18 foot wide, 6 foot high, 40 foot long with ramp access to one end)
*Four ramps (two 18 inches high and two 12 inches high)
*One 20 foot by 20 foot 3 foot highconcrete pyramid
*One concrete fly box 20 foot long by 2 foot high
*One 30 foot long concrete grinding block sloping from 18 inches to 6 inches
*10 foot wide "skate-around" area along the entire perimeter
*Skate park is 150 feet square (22500 square feet of concrete, a little over a half-acre in area about 9 trips around is a mile


SKATE PARK RULES

*The City of Beckley is not responsible for any injuries incurred during the use of this skate/skateboard facility

*No alcoholic beverages allowed, no smoking, no glass containers

*Skate/Skateboards must wear kneepads, elbowpads, wrist guards, helmet and shoes

*Skating/skateboarding and bikes only in this park

*Always skate or skateboard with a partner

*No food or drink permitted on skate/skateboard facility

*No rough housing or abusive behavior permitted in park

*Park is open between the hours of 9:00am to dusk

*Anyone violating any of the rules will be asked to leave the premises
